Description
46 cello glazed playing cards that help students decode, or sound out our complex English language. Students quickly learn that even though we have 26 letters of the alphabet, these letters combine in many different letter combinations (e.g. ‘oa’ as in boat), to make 44 different sounds. 26 alphabet letters make 44 different sounds!
The Sound Decoding Cards show students 44 Sound Pictures to help decode the 44 different sounds. There are 19 vowel Sound Decoding Cards and 25 consonant Sound Decoding Cards.
Each Sound Decoding Card shows the sound picture on the front, and on the back of the card the different letter combinations, or ‘spelling choices’ that the student can use to write the sound (e.g. ‘oa’ as in boat or ‘oe’ as in toe).
Using the sound picture cards, students can decode, or sound out and read words. They can then turn the cards over to help with writing the words using the correct letter combinations to spell and write words. This method quickly teaches the student to sound out, read and write words fluently.
