Perfect for students aged 5 – 8 years in the lower years of Primary School up to Year 2. The Lower Primary Literacy Bundle comprises of 4 workbooks. Starting with Book 1 Alphabet Phonics – Year 1 lines, students learn or revise the alphabet lowercase and capital letters in the Year 1 lines, their sounds, handwriting and numbers 0-20. It then follows with Book 1 and 2 Phonics and Spelling workbooks, moving from simple short vowel decodable words e.g. cat to introducing more difficult 2 and 3 letter spellings e.g. catch, long vowel sounds, and plurals. This bundle teaches students all the 44 sounds in the English language and all the different ways to spell the sounds, providing the essentials to learn to write, spell and read successfully. The workbooks include spelling lists and decodable sentences and short stories for reading, writing and dictation practise.
Book 1 Alphabet Phonics, Qld Handwriting & Numbers Workbook – Year 1 lines teaches at the same time, the name, sound, and how to write lowercase and capital letters, and numbers 0 – 20 on Year 1 lines. As a guide to letter formation, it uses the same pictures of objects that both mimic letter shape and begin with the same sound, that were used in Beginners Handwriting. Only the ‘Writing Talk’ said by the teacher and student as they write changes slightly to incorporate the Year 1 lines. Traffic light cues guide correct letter formation on Year 1 lines, without reversals. Students quickly develop automatic handwriting using this consistent approach. Practice is fun ‘Rainbow Writing using many coloured pencils, or using the transparent write on - wipe off overlay sheet included in the workbook, with a whiteboard marker.
Book 1 Phonics, Spelling & Decodable Sentences Workbook teaches spelling of short vowel sound words. Blends are taught, words that begin or end with more difficult consonant sounds with 2 and 3 letter spellings, and plurals with s and es endings. Vowel, blend and consonant sounds and word endings are colour coded for easy student identification. All sounds being learnt have a Sound Reference Page that shows a ‘sound picture’ and all the main letters or letter combinations that spell the sound. Spelling lists and decodable sentences using spelling words are included.
Book 2 Phonics & Spelling Workbook introduces long vowel sound spelling words using single syllable words. Write2Spell2Read shows students very simply the spelling choices that can be made for each of the long vowel sounds. With its clever organisation into sound families, students quickly make sense of long vowel sounds and understand ‘the big picture’. More difficult short vowel spellings, and spelling words that begin or end with more difficult consonant sounds with 2 and 3 letter spellings are also covered. It is to be used alongside Book 2 Phonics & Spelling Workbook and can be printed to use with Level 2 on the Write2Spell2Read Interactive Whiteboard Program. This book teaches students to read and write decodable sentences and short stories that use the spelling words that align with the week-by-week Teaching Sequence of the Book 2 Phonics & Spelling Workbook. All the sentences in the book are to be used for reading, writing and spelling (spelling words are underlined). Teachers also love these decodable sentences for dictation.
